Film Studies

The purpose of the Film Studies curriculum at The Howard School is:

to introduce our students to one of the main cultural innovations of the 20th century and a major art form of the last hundred years.
to foster a sense of enthusiasm and excitement for what is a powerful and culturally significant medium, inspiring a range of responses from the emotional to the reflective.
to encourage our students to be open and receptive to a diverse range of contemporary, independent and global films and to be confident in expressing their opinions of these in verbal and written form.
to be able to apply their knowledge and understanding of how films are constructed to their own filmmaking and screenwriting.
