Here at The Howard School, we strive to prepare our students for whatever future they wish to pursue, we are committed to providing a wide and varied programme of events and we are keen to work with employers, universities, colleges and training providers who can volunteer their time and pass on the benefit of their skills, experience and expertise.
Opportunities Fayre
Year 11 | 15th October 2024 | 5pm - 7pm
Running alongside Study Skills evening, the fayre will support students with the options directly open to them after year 11 with colleges and apprenticeship providers in attendance.
Mock Interview Days
Year 13 | 6th December 2024 | 8.30am - 1pm
Year 11 | 22nd January 2025 | 9am - 3pm
Mock interviews have such a practical impact on student's futures - they learn how to dress, speak, and answer classic interview questions - helping them to get ready for what comes after school.
Careers Fayre
12th February 2025
The purpose of the event is for students & parents to talk to different employers, universities, colleges and independent training providers to gain an understanding of what their jobs/courses entail or the different roles available and the skills that are needed to be successful in today's economy.
Work Experience Weeks
Year 10 | 9th - 13th June 2025
Year 12 | 14th - 18th July 2025
Spending some time with an employer, doing simple tasks, work shadowing or watching an experienced employer at work can be hugely beneficial for our students.
The reasons for doing work experience include
- Developing transferable skills such as communication and teamwork
- Understanding how an organisation works
- Building confidence
- Enhanced opportunities for part-time and casual employment
- Provides valuable content in a CV or a UCAS statement
